Traditional elders from SSC-Khatumo have thrown their weight behind the proposal for holding Puntland’s presidential elections on January 8, 2024.
Puntland has witnessed sharp differences between the ruling party and the opposition.
The ruling party under President Said Abdullahi Deni and the opposition have different preferred dates for the polls.
One group would like the polls to be in January while the other prefers February next year.
On Wednesday, SSC traditional elders held a press briefing in Garowe stating January 8 as their preferred date for the polls.
As per the elders’ view, the Puntland Electoral Commission (PEC) should hold parliamentary polls within 12 months of the presidential elections.
They add that voting should be through the one-person-one-vote system.
