The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has appealed to Somali legislators to be at the frontline of protecting the rights of children.
UNICEF issued this call to the parliamentarians on Monday during a ceremony held to launch a partnership between it and the Federal Government of Somalia.
Abdinasir Gulled, the Secretary-General of the Senate (Upper House), welcomed the partnership with UNICEF.
He indicated that the partnership would make it possible for legislators to take cognizance of the issues affecting Somali children.
The Secretary-General of the House of the People (Lower House) Abdirahman Mohamed Abdulle was at the ceremony too.
He expressed confidence in their ability to advocate for policies and legislation that address the needs of children.
