UPDF and ATMIS Troops Yet to Return to Bulo Marer Base

African Union Transition Mission to Somalia (ATMIS) forces are yet to return to their base that came under heavy attack by Al-Shabaab terrorists on May 26.

Almost three days later, they aren’t back to their Forward Operating Base (FOB).

Brig. Gen. Felix Kulaigye already confirmed to the press that the base had around 221 soldiers from the Ugandan People’s Defence Force (UPDF).

He added that 100-150 soldiers moved to Golweyn on the day of the attack. Golweyn is home to yet another military base full of Ugandan soldiers.

The Golweyn base is roughly 7kms to the east of Bulo Marer, where the attack took place.

Brig. Gen. Kulaigye, who is a military spokesperson, did not provide the number of casualties but confirmed that some Ugandan soldiers are now prisoners of war (PoWs).
