Waare Resigns as HirShabelle President as His Tenure Ends

Mohamed Abdi Waare tendered his resignation as President of HirShabelle on Monday, November 2.

Waare’s resignation took place a month after his tenure ended.

He resigned two days to HirShabelle State’s presidential elections.

HirShabelle is scheduled to hold its presidential polls on Wednesday, November 3.

On Tuesday, November 2, presidential candidates who registered on Monday for elections in the semiautonomous state are to present their cases before the Regional Parliament.

Waare is one of the candidates.

He is seeking reelection and has a high chance of emerging victorious owing to his closeness with President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo of Somalia.

Initially, Waare led calls for postponing the elections to 2021 but his cries were ignored.

Ninety Members of Parliament (MPs) are to elect the region’s new president.
