Cholera Cases Rising in Somalia in 2022

Somalia has witnessed a shocking increase in the number of cholera cases in the past few weeks and months.

A local organization known as WASH Cluster Somalia released its latest report on the rising cases of cholera in the country on May 18.

In the report, the organization lists the most affected parts of the country as Southwest, Jubbaland, HirShabelle, and Banadir.

As per the organization’s report, more than 4,075 cases of cholera have been recorded in different parts of the country in 2022 alone.

Middle Shabelle and Lower Shabelle regions lead with 1,915 cases.

The increase in cholera cases is attributable to the ongoing drought, which has created a lack of safe and clean water for drinking and domestic uses.
