Civil Aviation Minister Welcomes Reclassification of Somalia Airspace to Class A

The federal Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation has welcomed the reclassification of Somalia’s airspace to Class A.

Minister Fardowsa Osman Egal hailed the decision to reclassify the Somali airspace to Class A effective Wednesday.

The reclassification took effect one-minute past midnight on January 26.

This represented a historic moment for the East African nation whose airspace lost Class A status 30 years ago.

Egal also praised the operational restoration of air traffic control services after the three-decade hiatus.

She expressed gratitude to various bodies and individuals for making this possible.

Specifically, the minister thanked the Somalia Airspace Special Coordination Team.

The team comprised the Somali Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA), the International Air Transport Association (IATA), and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
