Government Confirms 7 Million Somalis Face Acute Food Shortage

The Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) has confirmed that over 7 million Somalis are currently facing an acute shortage of food.

Somalia is experiencing one of its worst droughts.

Several parts of the East African nation are grappling with an ongoing drought that shows no signs of abating.

The country’s Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management published a report on Monday, October 25 confirming this troubling development.

According to the government, several factors have made the situation worse.

Some of these include the recent incessant flooding and ongoing droughts. The effects of the COVID-19 pandemic have also worsened the situation.

The recent fighting in Galmudug’s Guri-El town, which displaced over 18,000 people, played a role in this too.
