Ministerial Committee Meets with AMISOM over Golweyn Killings

A ministerial committee that Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble appointed to investigate the Golweyn killings held its first meeting with African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).

Prime Minister Roble appointed the committee on Saturday, August 21 to investigate the deaths of seven civilians allegedly by AMISOM troops in Golweyn.

On Sunday, the committee had a session with senior AMISOM commanders over the case.

The committee said that it was focused on ensuring that the families of the dead civilians receive the justice they crave.

AMISOM has already admitted that the dead were indeed civilians.

This is in contrast to their earlier stance that its Uganda People’s Defense Force (UPDF) contingent killed Al-Shabaab militants.
