Senior Ugandan Military Officer Deployed to Somalia in Aftermath of Al-Shabaab Attack

Uganda has deployed one of its most senior military officers to Somalia in the aftermath of Friday’s attack by Al-Shabaab militants at an African Union Transition Mission to Somalia (ATMIS) base.

Al-Shabaab militants attacked the base located in Bulo Marer yesterday at dawn.

The terrorist group claims that it killed 137 ATMIS soldiers from Ugandan People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) in the daring attack.

Lt. Gen. Kayanja Muhanga, the Chief of the UPDF Land Forces, led a team of military officers to Somalia.

Brig. Gen. Felix Kulayigye, the spokesperson for UPDF and the Ministry of Defense, announced the deployment of the Lt. Gen. Muhanga-led team on Saturday.

He added that the team would investigate the matter and devise the way forward.
