Somali Opposition Officially Boycotts President’s June Talks

Mogadishu, Somalia – A coalition of Somali opposition leaders has officially announced a boycott of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s upcoming talks, scheduled for June 15–22.

The group issued a statement condemning the dialogue as an attempt to “selectively mobilize allies and bypass a broader consensus-building process.”

The opposition criticized the President’s approach, saying it sidelines federal member states and key opposition figures, undermining national unity and inclusive governance.

“This is not a genuine dialogue for Somalia’s future. It’s a calculated effort to consolidate support from handpicked actors while ignoring the voices of legitimate stakeholders,” the statement read.

The talks were expected to cover key national issues including security, federalism, and upcoming electoral processes.

However, the boycott casts doubt on their legitimacy and potential outcomes.

No official response has yet been issued by Villa Somalia.
