Deputy Minister of Labour and Social Affairs Amina Hussein and National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) Commissioner Mahamuud Moallim jointly chaired a high-level Shock Response Coordination Meeting to bolster Somalia’s resilience against droughts and other crises.
The meeting brought together federal and state officials, UN agencies, and key stakeholders to strengthen collaboration and streamline emergency response efforts.
Discussions focused on enhancing inter-agency coordination to ensure a unified approach to disaster management, improving collective response strategies for droughts, floods, and displacement, as well as leveraging partnerships with international organizations to support government-led interventions.
With recurring droughts threatening livelihoods, the meeting emphasized the need for early warning systems, social protection programs, and sustainable solutions to mitigate humanitarian crises.
This gathering marks a critical step in Somalia’s efforts to build a more resilient and coordinated disaster response system.
