MOGADISHU – The Permanent Secretary of the Office of the Prime Minister, Kamal Gutaale, and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hamza Adan Haadow, have jointly chaired a meeting of Directors General from federal ministries at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters, aimed at strengthening coordination and cooperation among government institutions.
Permanent Secretary Haadow welcomed the Directors General to the meeting and emphasised the importance of enhancing cooperation and coordination between government agencies. The meeting provided a platform for discussing ways to improve inter-ministerial collaboration and ensure consistent implementation of national policies.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been at the forefront of coordinating Somalia’s international engagements, with Permanent Secretary Haadow previously engaging with UNTMIS on the transition process and the evolving political and security landscape in Somalia.
Diplomatic Protocol and Procedures
During the meeting, Mohamed Fatax, Director of the East Africa Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, delivered a presentation on diplomatic protocols and procedures. The presentation highlighted the Ministry’s role in coordinating the Federal Republic of Somalia’s international relations and the importance of adhering to established diplomatic practices when engaging with foreign governments and international organisations.
Somalia’s foreign ministry has been actively engaged in diplomatic efforts across the region, with officials holding talks on telecommunications, port development, and cultural diplomacy in Muscat.
Commitment to Diplomatic Standards
The Directors General who attended the meeting welcomed the presentation and expressed their commitment to adhering to diplomatic protocols when carrying out official government functions.
