MP Gama’diid Slams Somali Govt Over Political Appointments

Mogadishu, Somalia – Federal lawmaker Yusuf H. Ahmed Gama’diid has publicly criticized Somalia’s federal government, accusing it of appointing individuals to senior positions based on loyalty rather than merit.

In a press briefing held in Mogadishu, Gama’diid expressed concern over what he described as “a worrying trend” of promoting officials who have a record of openly insulting opposition figures. He argued that such appointments undermine public trust and damage the prospects of genuine service delivery.

“The current leadership is prioritizing personal loyalty over public interest,” the MP stated, warning that this approach could deepen political divisions ahead of the anticipated 2026 electoral model reforms.

His remarks add to growing tensions within Somalia’s political landscape, as various actors position themselves for influence ahead of the upcoming transition period. The federal government has not yet responded to Gama’diid’s comments.
