World Bank Approves $143 Million for Drought Response in Somalia

The World Bank has approved the disbursement of $143 million to help with the drought response efforts in Somalia.

According to the World Bank, the funds would help Somalis left vulnerable by the drought that continues to bite.

Furthermore, more families around the country will receive a portion of the funds as support for sustainable livelihoods.

Kristina Svensson, World Bank’s Country Director for Somalia, confirmed this pleasant news on Thursday, June 23.

“The World Bank would continue doing everything within its power to save the most vulnerable households and individuals in Somalia,” Svensson said.

Svensson also confirmed that the World Bank runs a project that seeks to address the needs of close to 20,000 families around the country.

Around 338,000 households are to receive emergency cash donations from the funds that the World Bank has donated.
